A Creative Writing Masterclass with Mati Shemoelof

Diasporic Poetry in the Jewish Context

Mati Shemoelof (author)

Storytelling – Identity – Writing

This creative writing workshop offers an in-depth exploration of the relationship between diaspora, transnationalism, identity, and artistic expression. Participants will engage in critical discussions on the role of writing in the reality of hyphenated identities, focusing on its unique intersection with cultural and historical narratives. We will examine how to challenge dominant narratives and reveal a more complicated story of belonging. By exploring a world increasingly shaped by migration, identity politics, and cross-cultural, cross-sectional tensions, this course invites students to think critically about cultural ownership, hybridity, and the power of writing in bridging divides.  We will critically engage with the possibilities of establishing new artistic expressions and storytelling. The first part of the creative writing masterclass will delve into ideas and contextualize our cultural position and vision, the second part will involve developing a writing project, and in the end, presenting it.

The Masterclass will be conducted in English.

Participants can produce texts in English, German or Hebrew.

Applicants may include authors, performers, and artists who wish to explore intersections of writing with an employment of immigration as a broader theme to discover new forms of expressive language.

Becoming Divine: Drag and Queer Performance Practices Masterclass

A journey through gender, archives, and spirituality in queer performance art.

Shlomi Moto Wagner aka Mazy Mazeltov (drag artist, composer, opera singer, theatre maker and founder of House of Mazeltov)

Drag – Rituals – Archives – Empowerment

This workshop offers an immersive introduction to drag and queer performance practices through an artistic, spiritual and political lens. Combining theory, experimentation, and performance, students will explore how gender can be crafted, embodied, and transformed through performance as a ritual. We will approach drag not only as entertainment but as a radical, poetic tool for storytelling, empowerment, and resistance. Throughout our time together, students will reflect on their personal and cultural archives, experiment with queer aesthetics, and create their own performative works. The workshop culminates in a final collective performance of the students together with Mazy Mazeltov.  We welcome anyone working at – or curious to explore – the intersection of body, identity, personal history, and the artistic expression of gender, society, and spiritual or ritual practices.

Participants may come from fields such as performance, drag, music, visual arts, theatre, writing, or other creative practices. All religions or no religion are welcome. There will be play – so a desire to perform is essential.

The Masterclass will be held in English.

Performance masterclass with the Noa Eshkol Foundation

Disciplined the Archive: Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation as a Tool for Creative Work

Noa Eshkol Foundation: Mor Bashan (dancer of the Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group and Head of Archive)

Choreography – Compositional Techniques – Notation – Textile Art

Noa Eshkol was a highly influential Israeli dancer, choreographer and visual artist. This five-day Masterclass engages with the Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation (EWMN) – a technique to notate movements to develop and uncover rich and complex compositions – as a living archive: movement scores, the designing and conceiving of the notation method, and its creative applications. The course preserves the formation of Eshkol’s chamber dance group and the repertoire she composed, reflecting thought processes, methodologies, teaching strategies, and the transmission of knowledge.  Students will explore core EWMN concepts, take part in movement classes drawn from Eshkol’s repertoire, and experiment with short composition exercises guided by the method. In addition to physical practice, the workshop will incorporate sessions that draw on archival materials, raising questions about the role of the archive in artistic practice and offer insight into the diverse applications of EWMN – including early computer graphics, pedagogical uses, folk dance, zoology and more.

The Masterclass will be held in English.

The Masterclass is intended for artists from all artistic disciplines, e.g. visual arts and performance arts, who are interested in movement as a language and as a structure for creation.

Choreography dance &Masterclass with Yasmeen Godder and Itzik Giuli

Practicing Empathy

Yasmeen Godder (choreographer, dancer) and Itzik Giuli (multidisciplinary artist, actor, writer, dramaturg and artistic director of the Yasmeen Godder Company)

Individual bodies – Vocal expression – Dance

For the past decade, Yasmeen Godder and Itzik Giuli have been developing works that question how the medium of dance imprints itself on the bodies of performers and audiences alike. This workshop will explore ways of accessing deep impulses within our bodies and psyches, treating them as raw material to be shaped into physical and vocal expression.

Participants will be invited to delve into highly personal modes of expression while also engaging in group practices that respond to shared needs and collective states. Drawing on the Practicing Empathy series, we will work with processes for creating and refining short individual and group scores.

The Masterclass will be held in English.

The Masterclass is designed as a fertile resource for artists from all artistic disciplines, e.g. visual arts and performance arts, working across different mediums who seek embodied tools for their creative practice.

A hands-on masterclass with Nir Evron

From Screen to Space

Nir Evron (filmmaker/artist)

Contemporary Moving Image Practices – Methods – Experimentation

This seminar is designed for emerging and established artists interested in working with moving image, video, and media art. It expands participants’ understanding of key critical issues, themes, and agendas shaping contemporary moving-image practices, while providing practical, hands-on training in working with digital video toward an exhibition. Each in-person session begins with presentations of relevant video artworks, followed by group discussion, and then moves into technical and conceptual methods for manipulating, editing, and exhibiting video. Depending on the needs and knowledge of the participants we can focus on post-production workflows, editing concepts, sound and music, multi-projection setups, and installation strategies, including experimentation with projection and mapping techniques as well as multi-audio configurations. On request we will also share practical guidance on funding opportunities, exhibition and screening contexts, and how to apply and submit video work. Participants will present works in progress for feedback and the opportunity to test ideas in class, supported by one-on-one meetings for deeper guidance.

Follow-up Zoom sessions for one-on-one consultations will take place later in the year as participants’ projects develop and move toward completion.

The masterclass will be conducted in English.

The masterclass is open to emerging and established artists working with moving images. Applicants must apply with a current work in the form of rough-cut timelines and/or already-recorded materials, along with a clear outline of their aims and what they want to develop toward completion and exhibit in the framework of the masterclass.
